With viruses
being created and modified into new strains every day, the
phrase "you get what you pay for" has never been so true.
There are many free antivirus vendors out there these days,
and their products are good.......the problem occurs when a
new virus is released into the wild and the current versions
do not detect the new "signature" of the virus.
This means that
until the antivirus vendor releases a new update and either
you choose to update your antivirus software, or an
automatic update is applied, then your computer (and network
potentially) is open to infection from this new threat.
This period of time is called the "Window of Vulnerability".
Free Antivirus
Vendors do not make an income from you using their products,
so have a very limited resource to fund the Research and
Development required to develop a cure for a new virus
within hours. This in turn, widens the Window of
Vulnerability, and therefore the length of time that your
PCs are at risk.
As the McAfee
products not only detect existing viruses, they also detect
suspicious activity from new viruses without needing
updates, and prevent them from spreading, so the
"Window of Vulnerability" is reduced to almost
zero.......this is one of the many reasons that we recommend
