Wireless Networks are an excellent method of extending an existing network without having to resort to wiring more cables, or where cables cannot be run i.e. in a Listed Building or  for sharing an Internet Connection with other users in the house.
 
Data speeds are not normally as good i.e. only being approximately 54Mbs whereas a cabled network will run at 100 Mbs.

For Wireless Networks, we recommend and use the 3Com Office Connect range of products.
 
Of course, there are certain situations where a Wireless Network cannot be installed and then a Cabled Network will have to be installed, but these are few and far between.

The Standard for today's networking is to the 802.11g Standard. 
 
These standards were introduced to ensure that all systems throughout the world operated on the same principles.
 
With a Wireless Network, you can connect up to 64 Wireless users, with a total of 253 Users per device.  With this total, you would need to consider all the attached devices including Printers, Print Servers, Servers and other associated equipment.
 
To ensure maximum security on the network, we use either WPA or WEP Security depending if there is any legacy equipment that needs to connect wirelessly.
 
Any device connected behind the Router is protected by a Hardware Firewall(Built-in) which eliminates the need for software firewalls, but if the devices are connected wirelessly, then we do recommend that software firewalls are installed on any wireless devices i.e. laptops.
